Christmas Feature: Parkside Home and Co.

Meet husband and wife duo who are the team behind this Surrey, BC based business,  Parkside Home and Co Kellie and Mike, pictured above with their 2 beautiful children.  Kellie and Mike started their business after having their first child. Kellie had a vision to have a beautiful nursery with hand crafted pieces. Their first piece was a growth ruler, which they then made some for friends, and eventually decided to sell them. Kellie the creative vision and Mike the handy man. As they both work demanding full-time jobs, this business is ran on a few hours a night that they describe as “Date Night”.

Parkside home and co is a rustic modern farmhouse design company that makes hand-made wood pieces for your home. Each piece is custom, just like the wood it was made with, each stain takes differently to the product because of how different each piece of wood is, so every customer receives a completely original piece. Although their business is based in Surrey, BC, they also offer a local pick up in East Vancouver. They make anything from Growth Rules, farm door baby gates, coffee tables, benches and blanket ladders. They have in stock pieces you can buy as well as they can make customer pieces for you as well. You will also be able to find Parkside and Co at their first Christmas fair this year, Steveston Community Centre Craft Fair from 10-4 on Saturday November 25th.

Kellie and Mike describe the most challenging part of running their business is time management. Fitting in time for the business, and family while continuing to work full-time jobs. After starting their business a year ago, the best part they say is all the incredible people they meet – Customers, fellow business owners and the friends they have made. Their inspiration for their decor comes from HGTV’s Fixer Upper

I think it is really nice to hear what other small business owners have for advice to people just starting out or who may be thinking about starting out. Here is theirs: You are not alone, you are going to meet so many fellow entrepreneurs, be open to discussing your struggles with them and building a tribe of fellow business owners. Be unapologetically you, and charge what you are worth (you know what your worth!) if you do that you will attract the right kind of people and be successful. Never stop being creative. – I love the idea of creating a tribe of people who can support your business in the business!! Small Shops supporting small shops!!
